The deal has a major financial dimension as well. Amazon’s planned purchases of Qualcomm data center products and related technology can reach up to $60 billion over 10 years. Amazon will also receive warrants to buy up to 25 million Qualcomm shares at $161.26 each.
The partnership goes beyond AI chips. Qualcomm and Amazon will also work on high-speed optical connections for data centers. Qualcomm says the solutions will use its SerDes and optical DSP technologies. They will support speeds of up to 1.6T, along with future generations.
For AI data centers, compute speed means little if the system cannot move data fast enough. Information constantly travels between processors, memory, and other components. Faster links help keep those systems running efficiently.
