The wait is almost over for Call of Duty fans. On July 20, 2026, Activision confirmed the beta dates for Modern Warfare 4. Players will get two chances to test the game before its official release on October 23, 2026.
The announcement came after Fanatics Fest in New York. Visitors were the first to play the latest Modern Warfare title. They also got an early look at Kill Block, a new multiplayer mode built around changing battlefields. The Modern Warfare 4 early access beta starts on August 21. The first beta runs until August 25. It is available to anyone who pre-orders the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The Modern Warfare 4 beta begins on August 28 and ends on September 1. This stage is open to everyone. No pre-order is needed. Nintendo Switch 2 users can also take part. Pre-orders for the Switch 2 version begin on August 26. The beta offers a solid preview of the multiplayer experience. It includes a mix of new content and returning fan favorites.
Highlights include:
- New multiplayer maps.
- Up to 19 weapons.
- New Operators, including Vault Edition Operators.
- Custom loadouts.
- Updated movement mechanics.
- Classic and new multiplayer modes.
The biggest addition is Kill Block. Unlike traditional maps, Kill Block changes as the match goes on. A route that is open early may close later. Safe areas can quickly become dangerous. Teams must change their plans as the battlefield shifts. That makes every match feel different.
Returning modes, such as Search & Destroy, are also available. The beta also features the new Training Mobility Course and large battles with tanks. The event gave fans more than an early match. Visitors watched live creator battles and met developers from Infinity Ward. The studio also shared more details about multiplayer during live sessions.
Another highlight was the Aston Martin Dreadnought tactical SUV. The vehicle will become drivable later this year in DMZ and Call of Duty: Warzone. Fans also picked up exclusive merchandise, Ghost collectibles, beta codes, and event rewards. The Modern Warfare 4 Vault Edition unlocks extra content during the beta. It includes exclusive operators and signature weapon blueprints.
Activision has also introduced a new pre-order challenge linked to Black Ops 7 Season 05. Completing it unlocks the Moonlit Pearl and Gilded Ruin Universal Weapon Camos. The first 100,000 players to earn Gilded Ruin will receive a numbered version, making it one of the rarest rewards available at launch. It will also share new features and developer updates before Early Access starts.
The full game launches on October 23. Until then, the two beta weekends will give the community a closer look at what the latest Modern Warfare entry offers. They will also help Infinity Ward fine-tune multiplayer using community feedback before release.
